Oliberté Retail Store Design
With generosity as the forefront of retail and design and in collaboration with OSU design, Rebekah Mathaney, and VMSD Magazine, my retail design studio designed brick and mortar retail experiences for online generous brands. We were charged with redefining the retail experience by focusing on generosity and product longevity as it speaks to the Millenial and Gen Z generations. For this project, I was in a team of one Interior Designer - Da Lee, one Industrial Designer - Khanya Keswa and myself. We chose to center our concept on the generous brand Oliberté.
Oliberté is a lifestyle brand committed to supporting worker's rights in Sub-Saharan Africa. They create environmentally friendly leather shoes and handbags in the world's first fair trade certified footwear factory. All of their materials are source locally in Addis Ababa, Africa and the surrounding area, in one of the most environmentally friendly tanneries in the world. Generosity is at the core of who they are. All manufacturing, materials, jobs, and machinery is sourced in Africa with a commitment to bettering the lives of their workers and sustaining lives by providing jobs. Our final concept focuses on changing the mindset of America when it comes to how we perceive Africa as well as creating a human centered cultural exchange while promoting "We Are Africa" and product longevity in a Repair center in store. In order to create this unique experience we designed a Flagship Store, Pop-Up Hut, and Community Outreach Program.
